Dear PM, You Still Don't Get It, Do You?

Dear PM,

Let's skip the formalities and let me get to the point.

Did you smoke till you got burnt before you did the National Rally thing? I don't know what you smoked but I can't believe that you are the same bloke who said sorry just before the last general election.

"Singaporeans must show a generosity of spirit to one another, including new arrivals," Mr. Lee said in his speech Sunday. [Link] Blimey, you said that?  Geez, this sucks! It's worse than "mee siam mai hum"! It leaves the same bitter taste in my mouth like when your dad told us to repent should we vote in Workers' Party in Aljunied GRC.

Generosity of spirit? How about PAP leaders showing some to its citizens? Can you please stop berating us for the damned mistakes that you and your millionaire colleagues created. No dude, we are not the one-eyed dragons consumed by hatred, anger or unhappiness over xenophobia.

Hello, it is not the immigrants that we are against. It your policies of bringing in the tsunami of immigrants without any care or concern for the well-being of all of us (both local Singaporeans and new immigrants as well) that is infuriating! Why do you keep bringing them in without planning for the welfare and wellbeing of both Singaporeans and new immigrants? Transportation woes! Housing shocks! Lack of hospital beds for the sick! Look at the unhappiness you have created? Before calling Singaporeans small hearted, maybe you should check if you've got a heart in the first place! Why you and your elites keep pretending and 'wayanging' is simply beyond us.

We have been big-hearted in the coffeeshops and blogs letting you know about the crazy tsunami of immigration but you would not listen. We were treated as 'noise'. Hello, you are not listening still!

Dear PM, do you have to stand in a queue in Singapore lately? Have you been shouted at and challenged to a fight by 'someone' who jumped your queue when you politely tell him (and/or her too) to take his place at the back of the line? Until you get this constant bullying by these immigrants (so bloody pampered by you and your elites), don't berate me for not being big-hearted!

Dear PM, do you ever buy food at hawkers centre or foodcourt? I doubt so. Just so you know, I have been screamed at when making an order because I cannot speak PRC Mandarin. It gets worse when he/she rubbed me deeper by saying, "Chinese do not know how to speak Chinese!" Instead of creating a scene, I usually cut the conversation short, stick up my middle finger, say "Up Yours!" and move to eat from another stall. That's my way of preventing myself from further humiliation and getting another heart attack!

Please. It is not that we are small hearted. It is you and your colleagues in your race to achieve your crazy objectives that have created this sad state of affairs in Singapore.

While berating us for our lack of good spirit, you humiliated and downgraded us further by pampering and showing off the good character of new PRC immigrants by pointing out their greatness in their contribution to charities and community work.

What's with you, dude?

Is this how you start a NATionalCONversation?

And please, do not tell us our ancestors were immigrants too. Dude, we know. While you welcome the new immigrants with your legs wide open, I'd like you to know that:
  1. My grandpa took the risks of coming on his own by sea in rickety boat.
  2. The Brits did not go the China to induce him to come to Singapore with free university education (with lodging and jobs guaranteed) or prize money in winning Olympic medals.
  3. The Brits did not welcome him with open legs nor supported him with special funds to help him integrate. He did it on his own by learning to speak Malay, SinEnglish and even Tamil and other dialects!
  4. Unlike you, the Brits did not mollycoddled him and put him on a pedestal by telling the early local Singaporeans how great he and his fellow immigrants were in building communities or doing charities. They did it on their own, quietly, without any song and dance. Of course, without which, Singapore would not be what it is today.
  5. The Brits did not tell the locals off for not being big-hearted in accepting their spitting and swearing and other dirty habits. Truth be told, the swear words I learned from my grandpa was far better than what I learned in NS anytime!
Hello, wake up! The angst, the discomfort is not felt by the locals alone. The immigrants feel it too! The small-heartedness is caused by the fact that this little dot of an island is too small to accommodate so many so soon. Geddit?

We need breathing space.

Oh, we can go to Gardens by the Bay? But we have to squeeze into bus or MRT to smell some armpits before we can get there! Fresh air?

Geddit now?

Or you still smokin'?

Please lah. Don't scold us for not helping you solve the problems you and your millionaire elites created.

I sincerely hope that you will not be consumed by hatred, anger and unhappiness by my 'O' level heartlander candour. If you need something more sophisticated, less raw, go read Tommy Koh's "Reflections on immigration" in ST of 29 August 2012.

Taken positively, my contribution to SINgaporeCONversation may be worth much more that the "flatter-till-you-die" feedback that you are getting from your 'porlumpars' (testicles carriers in Hokkien) with hive minds and swarm intelligence.

I cannot stand him screaming at Singaporeans for being single-eye dragon across all his mouthpiece stations and channels. He indeed has inherited his father's gene for being quick to criticise Singaporeans instead of looking at his own flaws. Single-eye dragon is better than a blinded PAP which explains why this country is such a mess.

I had a tele-marketeer scolded me for not able to understand nor speak in Mandarin, and yes she is from the PRC, from her heavily accented Mandarin. So these days, i just cut them short and said no money and hang up. Yes i am rude. They are just doing their jobs perhaps, but to insult me?

You also just don't get it. The Government has told us we need the foreigners and they are supposed to lead us. This will be the way Singapore is going to be run and if you expect a change of mindset, then I suppose a change of Government is the only way. Singaporeans must think hard and decide what is best for the young nation.

Fish, you nailed it on the head. Well said. These are the similar things most would like to bring up. We are upset because MIW did not even admit they are the source of all the social problems. Experiments has shown that if you keep some mice in a cage and give enough water and food, they live peacefully. When you increase the mice population, things start to turn bad. When it becomes over crowded, they even kill each others. Think we are now at the middle, steps before killing each others.

Sometimes I am not sure if our Dear PM is in touch with the ground. I believe for his status as ex PM's son and now the PM, he has little opportunities to interact with commoners like you and me. Every where he goes, he is surrounded by body guards and grassroot leaders who may not be telling the whole truth. Obviously, he will not line up to buy any hawker food or going into a neighbourhood store. So what is being said is a script written by someone and may not be from his heart. So blame the writer and spare him lah! But there again he is the PM.

In a nutshell, Lee Hsien Loong is simply a ominous clown and a two-bit actor, this is my humble opinion.
We are now paying a horrific price for putting our trust and lives in the hands of the PAP through trickery and treachery.
There is no hope under LHL's leadership, only despair and misery.
The only saving grace you will get is when he steps down or when we give him the boot, make no mistake about it, there is no two ways about it.

And speaking about candour, "academic qualifications are not the sole or even the chief determinant of intelligence in order to attain sophistication".
I'll share a joke with you or rather, I don't even possess a 'O' level or higher education,
wisdom is simply commonsense and insight, logic and reason.

Government must stand back and ask itself serious questions:

1. Are we moving at the right direction? Is progress through economic growth the only way forward?

2. How to break the fall of those less fortunates from falling through the cracks. This issue was raised year after year but no viable solution is found.

3. Is the immigration policy out of line with available infrastructures? If so what action to take to correct this. No budget, cut Defence. 25% of GDP defending this little rock is unreal.

4. Is the cohort of ministers the right pick? Are scholars the only critiria?

Another of the supposedly high flier, new PAP MP, ex army general is calling on Singaporeans to get out of their 'comfort zone' and interact more.

This fella is still sleeping in his barrack and obviously is unaware of what is happening around him.

What kind of comfort zone is he talking about? Most Singaporeans are working so late nowadays, just to make ends meet, that they get home just in time to see their kids going to bed. He calls that comfort zone? He expects them to go out and interact?

The elderly too are forced to work well past retirement age. He calls that comfort zone? More like a dead-eng zone for them.

This guy is obviously another one that is always talking cock.

Maybe, too much talking cock in the army gets to his head.

Parliament needs more opposition, it creates healthy competition for PAP just like how PAP create competitions in Singapore. I hope at least 2 SPP SME, 1 NSP GRC, 3 WP GRC and 1 RP GRC. 1 SDP GRC. It looks good in parliament with vibrancy. PAP will love it because they love people to be competitive.

We are often reminded we need FTs but they never explain why FTs ended up working as POSB or DBS Bank tellers or even as GRO cum masseurs cum prostitutes ? At least don't bullshit we are short of such FTs that work permits or PR or even citizenship can be issued for them !

Are they hiding behind the real truth from us that it has more to do with the increasing support for the opposition rather than the excuse that we are short of babies ?

If we are really that short of babies, do you simply increase the population by 1 million+ within such a short span of a few years, some more at the expense of the Malay race ?

How can the people give others the right to rule and then blame the Rulers. Not fair, rite?

Hi Fish Food... you should read today's article on Yahoo http://sg.news.yahoo.com/taxes-must-rise-for-social-spending-to-increase--ng-eng-hen.html
in it " Ng pointed out that the government does not have surpluses, noting that PM Lee had even mentioned in his rally that it took out S$8 billion from Singapore’s reserves in the last financial year."
2011: Singapore had $2.3 billion surplus!, and how can the government go into the reserves and take 48Billion without the president's consent? As far as I know he was not asked for that

At September 1, 2012 at 8:55 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anon @ August 31, 2012 9:55 PM

Presidential approval is needed if you want to take out from the reserves, but the $8 billion was from the "returns from investments" from the reserves. Is it the same? I dunno.

At September 1, 2012 at 10:10 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

PM Lee: "It is what Ministry of Finance calls NIRC, Net Investment Returns Contributions. It is an item in the budget... Last year FY 2011, from the reserves we got $8 billion to spend."

So they did not touch the actual reserves. We need to exercise caveat emptor when they make these kinds of egregious statements:
PM Lee: "...as our social spending increases significantly, sooner or later our taxes must go up."

Note that not all the $8 billion went into social spending. If this is funded from the NIRC, why increase taxes? Unless there are losses in these investments! So we need to beware of the smoke that they are throwing, example from the Hen, who left out the thing about NIRC.

PM Lee: "..we are making major investments in trains, $60 billion over 10 years." What worries me is that they will need to bring in more foreigners to fill up these trains.

Only just read your article. It is a good one and voices what many Singaporeans think when we heard or read what LHL said at the NDR. I think they still don't get it and that is worrying for Singapore indeed. And it is no wonder he didn't invite you for tea right? Don't think he can handle your questions and the truths of course. The truths must really hurt.
Keep it up, Feedmetothefish, never let them buy your right to speak the truth.

Surprisingly, I have nary heard a squeak from any of the elected Opposition members...Maybe they too have been seduced to the "dark side" having a good pay check and now resting on their laurels...
I hope the very people who put them there would call them up and knock their heads and remind them of their promises to be our "alternative" voice that will bring us to the first world and not a "silent" world! Time to remind them that it is time to "payback" the trust and support those brave HG and Ajunied people who had voted for them...I really hope they have NOT wasted their precious time and trust and certainly their votes for voting for a bunch of "good" but "silent" people who just might have forgotten their duties to the people who voted for them and the true blue Singaporeans!
